About

Hi! I’m Rebecca Rice, an Assistant Professor of Communication Studies at University of Nevada, Las Vegas. I received my Ph.D. from University of Colorado Boulder and my M.A. from University of Montana.

I started this blog because I find risk to be a fascinating social concept that comes with a whole weird history of industries, careers, and conversations around what is dangerous about our world. I draw from my 8 years of field research around emergency management, event security, and risk and crisis communication to take you on some interesting risk field trips.

My research focuses on risk, crisis, and emergency organizing. My work is particularly focused on interorganizational crisis collaboration and high reliability organizations. This research is guided by an interest in authority and power negotiations that take place among organizations as they deal with crisis.

I teach classes and workshops about organizational communication, professional communication, risk, crisis, and organizational scandal communication.
